There’s always reading to do…

…and I was invited to play in a nice new sandbox recently – to recommend five books, with a common theme of my choosing. I picked “unforgettable women”, and chose five books to exemplify them – the list is here – go peruse, and happy reading, if you haven’t encountered these particular books or authors before. All I can say is, there’s always reading to do, there’s always books and authors to discover, and any time you’re unexpectedly pointed to serendipitous new favourites is a good time to grab up more books by the handful and run with them to some quiet place where you won’t be disturbed for a while, to escape into new words and new worlds. There’s more where my list came from – if you want to peruse the rest of the site there are listicles there by many authors on many themes, something’s bound to catch your fancy. Go look, do.

There’s a good reason I picked this category. I make it a point to write strong female characters, protagonists who vigorously protagonist while women, and I have always been drawn to stories by other people who have done the same thing. Reading a story which features a strong female lead – and one that isn’t a man in drag – has always been a particular pleasure, and I have thoroughly enjoyed putting this particular list together. If you have not yet met my beloved Dianora, from Guy Gavriel Kay’s “Tigana”, I urge you to go rectify that omission ASAP. You won’t be sorry. And the other ladies from my list, too, are worth making your acquaintance with. (And then you can always circle back to some of my OWN oeuvre that you might not have read yet. Have you met Olivia? Or Simonis? Or Stella? Or Amais?… like I said, there’s always reading to do…)

I’m busy on edits for a very special book. More about that, anon. Let me finish doing the scutwork and when the thing is prettified and imminent… I’ll be back to tell you all about it…
